Show Your Love for Nighttime in Acadia

Acadia Night Sky Festival is looking for this year’s iconic image

March 14, 2019 — The search is on for the image to represent the 11th annual Acadia Night Sky Festival. The festival’s steering committee launched its annual competition to find the next great image that will represent the 2019 festival.

“Artists are encouraged to submit their take on the night sky,” stated Alf Anderson, chair of the Acadia Night Sky Festival marketing committee. “In past years we have received gorgeous photographs of the Milky Way over Acadia National Park and artists’ interpretations of the stars overhead. This year, we are excited to see what kind of unique imagery will be submitted and can’t wait to share that with our devoted festival fanbase.”

Over the past ten years, the festival has grown from a small base of local participants to a full-fledged experience featuring dozens of workshops and renowned researchers. From stargazing atop Cadillac Mountain to evening cruises on Frenchman Bay to telescope lessons, visitors come to Mount Desert Island from across the U.S. and Canada to enjoy the crystal-clear viewing experience that Acadia’s night sky has to offer.

All artists and photographers over the age of 18 are welcome to apply. To be considered for the festival’s 2019 poster image and marketing materials, all submissions must be original, depict Acadia and/or Downeast Maine’s stellar night sky, and be high resolution.

“Each year, this contest gets more difficult to judge because of the quality of the submissions,” noted Anderson. “The passion that artists display in their work featuring the Downeast and Acadia region is truly inspiring.” The contest began accepting submissions on February 12, 2019, and will close on Sunday, March 24, 2019.

The winning image will be featured on the 2019 festival poster, brochure, website and all related marketing materials. In addition, the chosen artist will receive two round-trip tickets between Bar Harbor and Boston, courtesy of Cape Air.
