Do you recall the last time you were really, really happy?

I hope you can recall the feeling.

Here I am with a tambourine that was given to me by friends after I performed on stage at a piano bar at Disney World. They thought I was such a good tambourine player, they bought me one of my own, so I could continue to practice!

You were probably smiling, and you felt really good.

Your stress was probably minimized, and you were optimistic about your future. Other people were more drawn to you because of your happy mood, as well.

Can you see how a person who is happy and less stressed is more likely to attract good things into their lives than someone who is unhappy, stressed and close-minded?

I recently saw a life-changing talk about this topic by Amy Cuddy, a Harvard researcher and business professor. Her premise is that even if you don’t feel totally happy, if you smile and open yourself up to the possibility of happiness, you will probably feel happier. In other words, you can fake your way into happiness.

After you’ve watched Amy’s Ted Talk, take a few moments and think about how, in business, you can attract more people (customers or employees) when you feel happy and open to the possibilities. Happiness often comes in moments, not hours or days at a time, so try to notice the moments of happiness in your day, and recognize how it makes you feel and how it opens your mind.

I’ve always tried to convey a sense of happiness to others. I try to smile as often as possible, and I enjoy a good laugh as often as possible. That’s part of my personal brand and I feel it’s been part of my success in building a large national (and international) network of business contacts and friends.
