She has spoken at gatherings of Chamber of Commerce Members, Statewide Governor's Conferences, Statewide Professional Development for School Superintendents and Professional Librarians, and Government-sponsored Professional Development Seminars in the U.S. and in Canada.
Her topics cover Marketing Tips for Small Businesses or Non-Profits and Tourism-Specific Public Relations and Marketing Tools. Programs range from 20 minutes up to four hours.
Nancy can prepare a “participants' workbook” for longer sessions that can be used as a take-home piece with samples of press releases, media advisories, and other PR/Marketing materials.
Nancy's style is at once
informative and fun. It’s always lively. She has a unique talent of engaging audiences and keeping them interested, using real-life examples and anecdotes to make the information current and relevant. She ties in
current industry trends so the participants have useful information that they can act upon immediately in their own business.
Here are some comments from participants in a workshop led by Nancy in Prince Edward Island, Canada:
"Excellent seminar. Nancy is such a dynamic speaker and the information presented was very useful as it pertains to my tourism business as well as the work I do for non-profit groups."
"One of the best workshops I have attended."
"Excellent seminar with very practical ideas and thoughts."
Other individuals who have enjoyed Nancy's workshops have the following to say:
When the Maine Public Relations Council (MPRC) professional development committee wanted to offer a social media program for our members, Nancy Marshall was the first person I thought of. Her passion for social media as a communication tool is apparent and her expertise successfully using social media as a communication tool is clear. The workshop she presented was the perfect fit for MPRC. What set this presentation apart is she not only taught attendees how to choose the appropriate social networks for a particular target audience but also how to establish and measure goals. Nancy provided practical tools and takeaways attendees could go back to the office and use right away. For example, I left the workshop with strategies for creating a written social media policy, a report template for quarterly website goals, and the tools I needed to clearly define various social media goals and messages.

The Maine Association of Nonprofits hired Nancy to lead a presentation on communications planning for a group of executive directors, and she received high scores for what participants described as a "lively, interesting, excellent, practical, and valuable" session.

It's been great to work with Nancy over the years in the Maine ski industry, and I appreciate her willingness to speak to the apple growers at the Northeast Apple Society meeting. Her ability to apply PR savvy to this niche group made the presentation very relevant to the group. Orchardists are really quite technologically skilled though many have not considered the PR value of their businesses. Nancy laid out the nuts and bolts of not just getting the orchard story into the local press, she outlined exactly why these people are experts in their field. By building their relationship with the press, they will be sought out by the media whenever an apple story comes across the assignment desk. You could tell by the number of conversations with Nancy during the reception that everyone was enthusiastic about her message. She gave everyone a boost of confidence that they have an important message that should be covered by the media.

Nancy spoke to the members of Economic Development Council of Maine at our annual meeting at the Lucerne Inn in January of 2008. The comments received from the participants were excellent.

Nancy Marshall's presentation, "Marketing and Public Relations," at the Maine Library Association Summit Conference (November 16, 2007) was extremely valuable. Libraries are no longer self-legitimizing: they are not the only "game in town." Google, Starbucks, and Barnes and Noble are all competing for our customers. Nancy listened to each of the session's participants, all of whom had some degree of experience in the field, and decided that this wasn't "Marketing 101" but rather "Senior Seminar." She adjusted her presentation for her audience, but likewise adjusted her expectations of us, encouraging us to "take it to the next level." She pressed us to think about making ourselves into news stories, not only for local papers but for radio, TV, and regional or national print media. She pressed us to organize and focus our websites and e-mail mailing lists and to use low-cost but high quality tools to produce our electronic newsletters. She encouraged us to explore and experiment with Web 2.0 technologies such as YouTube, blogs, and wikis. All in all it was a great session, and Nancy herself was lively and engaging. I truly hope other state library organizations will consider hosting her at conferences and workshops. She has much to offer the library professional.
