Speaking Engagements

Nancy Marshall and other members of the NMC team are available for speaking engagements anywhere in Maine, the U.S., or around the world. They have spoken at workshops, annual meetings and other gatherings of Nonprofit executives, Chamber of Commerce Members, Statewide Governor's Conferences, Statewide Professional Development for School Superintendents and Professional Librarians, and Government-sponsored Professional Development Seminars in the U.S. and in Canada.

Their topics cover Marketing Tips for Small Businesses or Non-Profits, Leveraging the Power of 21st Century Communications Tools for Marketing Success, and Understanding Social Media Marketing Tools. Programs range from 20 minutes up to four hours and are filled with interesting anecdotes, real-life success stories and relevant “how-to” tips for professional people from all industries. Every presentation is customized to meet the needs of the particular gathering and audience.

The NMC team can prepare a “participants' workbook” for longer sessions that can be used as a take-home piece with samples of press releases, media advisories, and other PR/Marketing materials.

The NMC Team’s style is informative and fun. It’s always lively. They know how to engage audiences and keep them interested, using real-life examples and anecdotes to make the information current and relevant. They tie in current industry trends so the participants have useful information that they can act upon immediately in their own business. Attendees leave her presentations with actionable tips.

Here are some comments from participants in a workshop led by Nancy in Prince Edward Island, Canada:

"Excellent seminar. Nancy is such a dynamic speaker and the information presented was very useful as it pertains to my tourism business as well as the work I do for non-profit groups."

"One of the best workshops I have attended."

"Excellent seminar with very practical ideas and thoughts."

Other individuals who have enjoyed Nancy's workshops have the following to say:

State Representative, Tom Saviello"Nancy, thank you for taking time to talk to my students. Your presentation, experience and enthusiasm clearly show why you and you public relations efforts are a true success."

- State Representative Tom Saviello, who teaches a course in Political Science at the University of Maine at Farmington

Sue Mackey Andrews, President, Solutions Consulting Group, LLCNancy Marshall captivated a roomful of Maine early childhood administrators and practitioners in a lively session at the 2010 Maine Early Childhood Conference with a session on "Story-Telling."Nancy was able to easily connect with all participants and came prepared with a relevant example from her own business experience, which helped to highlight the importance of having multiple stories for difference audiences. She was flexible and easily responded to varied questions and situations presented to her. Most importantly, the participants thoroughly enjoyed the session. The materials that Nancy provided them were invaluable and useful information to all participants as they begin to create a public relations plan for their agency's services for immediate implementation.

In all of the planning and preparation for the conference, Nancy was wonderful to work with. She was flexible and organized, responding easily to my requests to personalize the content specifically for the early childhood community. We met beforehand and had a great opportunity to fully plan this session for its maximum benefit. Since the conference, I have heard from numerous early childhood administrators about their continued use of Nancy's materials in the PR initiatives, especially in exploring web based options including electronic newsletters. It was a pleasure to work with Nancy and to participate in her session; her style, content and approach really were superb and were a terrific "fit" for our audience!

Mr. Kim-Scott Miller M.Ed., Advancement Director, The Mountain School at WinhallAt the most recent Independent Schools Association of Northern New England (ISANNE) Conference, Nancy inspired me to develop a strategic communications plan for The Mountain School at Winhall. In particular, I was interested in creating a Marketing Map for our organization. Under Nancy's guidance I was encouraged to show the various audiences I would deal with such as donors, board of directors, governmental organizations, staff and media. Upon doing so I proceeded to show the tools I would use to communicate with those audiences, i.e. email, mail, newsletters, magazines, personal meetings, press releases and word-of-mouth. Now that this tool is being refined in-house, our staff and administration will use it to communicate to others what our school is all about.

Tami Kennedy, President, Maine Public Relations Council, Director of Communication, Shipyard Brewing CompanyWhen the Maine Public Relations Council (MPRC) professional development committee wanted to offer a social media program for our members, Nancy Marshall was the first person I thought of. Her passion for social media as a communication tool is apparent and her expertise successfully using social media as a communication tool is clear. The workshop she presented was the perfect fit for MPRC. What set this presentation apart is she not only taught attendees how to choose the appropriate social networks for a particular target audience but also how to establish and measure goals. Nancy provided practical tools and takeaways attendees could go back to the office and use right away. For example, I left the workshop with strategies for creating a written social media policy, a report template for quarterly website goals, and the tools I needed to clearly define various social media goals and messages.

Greg Sweetser, Executive Director, Ski Maine Association & Owner, Sweetser Farm, Cumberland Center, Maine. Established 1812It's been great to work with Nancy over the years in the Maine ski industry, and I appreciate her willingness to speak to the apple growers at the Northeast Apple Society meeting. Her ability to apply PR savvy to this niche group made the presentation very relevant to the group. Orchardists are really quite technologically skilled though many have not considered the PR value of their businesses. Nancy laid out the nuts and bolts of not just getting the orchard story into the local press, she outlined exactly why these people are experts in their field. By building their relationship with the press, they will be sought out by the media whenever an apple story comes across the assignment desk. You could tell by the number of conversations with Nancy during the reception that everyone was enthusiastic about her message. She gave everyone a boost of confidence that they have an important message that should be covered by the media.

Richard L. Kelso, Economic Development Council of Maine Administrator, Augusta, MaineNancy spoke to the members of Economic Development Council of Maine at our annual meeting at the Lucerne Inn in January of 2008. The comments received from the participants were excellent.

This was probably the most informative seminar we've had, due to the quality of the presentations and speakers like Nancy.

Robert Heath, Reserve Technician at Colby College's Miller Library, Waterville, MaineNancy Marshall's presentation, "Marketing and Public Relations," at the Maine Library Association Summit Conference (November 16, 2007) was extremely valuable. Libraries are no longer self-legitimizing: they are not the only "game in town." Google, Starbucks, and Barnes and Noble are all competing for our customers. Nancy listened to each of the session's participants, all of whom had some degree of experience in the field, and decided that this wasn't "Marketing 101" but rather "Senior Seminar." She adjusted her presentation for her audience, but likewise adjusted her expectations of us, encouraging us to "take it to the next level." She pressed us to think about making ourselves into news stories, not only for local papers but for radio, TV, and regional or national print media. She pressed us to organize and focus our websites and e-mail mailing lists and to use low-cost but high quality tools to produce our electronic newsletters. She encouraged us to explore and experiment with Web 2.0 technologies such as YouTube, blogs, and wikis. All in all it was a great session, and Nancy herself was lively and engaging. I truly hope other state library organizations will consider hosting her at conferences and workshops. She has much to offer the library professional.
