Nancy Marshall founded NMC in 1991, creating and implementing strategic public relations programs, primarily for tourism and recreation companies. The agency developed expertise in promoting economic development and NMC has been recognized by the Society of American Travel Writers for its tourism public relations campaigns, and the Maine Public Relations Council has awarded NMC with its "Best in Show" for three consecutive years in its Golden Arrow Awards.

What She Does
Nancy serves as a public relations advocate and hands-on manager for marketing-based public relations. She plays an active role as a consultant (and friend) to all clients, and directs the marketing and strategic positioning of the company. Clients and the media say it's her enthusiasm that makes her stand out from other PR people.

Favorite Thing About Marshall Communications
"It's incredibly rewarding to build a business based on something I'm passionate about, and to build an employee team made up of people who embrace this profession and enjoy the accomplishments as much as I do. We work hard and we have fun."

Previous Experience
Worked in public relations for PBS television station and for Sugarloaf/USA before venturing out on her own to establish NMC.

Career Highlights
In 1983 she won a national PBS public relations award for a press kit created for "HouseWarming with Charlie Wing," a series produced by Angus S. King, Jr. at WCBB-TV in Lewiston, Maine. In 1993 was awarded the first Marketing Services Contract issued by the Maine Office of Tourism. Contract renewed in 1996, when her agency also won the contract for the Office of Business Development. The agency still holds these contracts today. NMC has won top awards from the Society of American Travel Writers and the Maine Public Relations Council ("Best of Show" for three consecutive years).

What's the most rewarding aspect of Nancy's career?

Manages all activities in Augusta office and oversees ongoing media relations. Previous Experience
She has over ten years of paid and volunteer communications experience with various nonprofit and educational institutions. Most recently she worked as a project coordinator at the Kennebec Land Trust on organizational newsletters and conservation property brochures. Prior to that she served as the external affairs associate for Teach For America's Miami-Dade program and focused on education policy research and development activities. She also worked as a communications coordinator, focusing on outreach to the policymakers, media, and leaders in the business and environmental communities on numerous environmental policy issues for Resources for the Future, a think tank in Washington, DC.

Education
Earned her Bachelor of Arts in Geography from The George Washington University and a Master of Arts in Public Relations from the University of Miami's School of Communication.

Career Highlights
Worked with a talented team to implement the Policy Leadership Forum, 50th anniversary events, and strategically distribute numerous reports on policy topics such as Superfund, food safety, energy, forest, fisheries and antibiotic resistance for Resources for the Future. Helped to grow the Teach For America program and eliminate the achievement gap in Miami-Dade County.

What She Does
Provides administrative support to NMC's account executives. Rose also handles the day-to-day operations at the Augusta office, which includes greeting clients, answering the telephone, mail and press release distribution, as well as database and file management.

Previous Experience
Worked previously as an Administrative Assistant for 11½ years at the Winthrop Public School system in the offices of adult education and special education.

Education
Graduated with honors with an associate's degree in business administration from Central Maine Technical College in Auburn.

Career Highlights
While working for the Winthrop school system, I advanced several times. I worked for adult education in several capacities from part-time secretary to administrative secretary, to alternate GED examiner. For the past 2 ½ years, I was an Administrative Assistant in the office of special education.

Worked at Crisis & Counseling Centers as a Communications and Development Assistant designing, updating and reformatting agency brochures and display boards and was responsible for producing the monthly newsletter. Also worked as an assistant to the Music Director at Hall-Dale High School to organize and plan fundraisers and other events.

Small Business Major at University of Maine at Augusta

Career Highlights
In the span of three years I planned, organized and executed more than 12 fundraisers and events that raised over $23,000. Now the highlight of my career is being welcomed into the NMC team!

Two years experience working as an in-house designer producing a variety of materials from packaging to product photography for Saunders Manufacturing in Readfield, ME. One year experience working as an in-house designer on print advertisements and web banners for BSM Consulting in Scottsdale, AZ.

Education
Graduated from the University of Hartford in 2003 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design.

Career Highlights
Developed and implemented a redesign of the entire Saunders Packaging Line as part of a brand strategy to create a visually unified image of Saunder's products. Created a rhino "mark" as part of the RhinoSkin logo and established its identity standards.

Previous Experience
Two and a half years of experience designing high-end private school websites for WhippleHill Communications in Bedford, NH. Three years designing and developing websites for tourism, commerce, environmental and various other clients of Webb Design, Inc in Taos, New Mexico.

Education
Graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. Majored in graphic design and minored in computer science and studio art.

Career Highlights
Created several regional and national award-winning designs while working for WhippleHill Communications. While working for Webb Design, programmed many database driven websites where clients can manage their own websites' data...now that's user-friendly! Served as public information officer for the Delaware Economic Development Office and communications coordinator for the Delaware Tourism Office. Also managed the public relations department of a children's rehabilitation hospital in Philadelphia and served as account executive at a public relations firm specializing in the retail and hospitality industries.

Education
Attended the University of Delaware and graduated in 1994. with a B.A. in English/Journalism and Communication/Public Relations. Completed additional coursework in British and American Literature in 2003.

Career Highlights
Worked with Connie Chung on a segment about selective mutism for ABC's "20/20," garnered coverage for the State of Delaware's biotechnology initiative in the Los Angeles Times, worked with CNN's Jeanne Moos on a segment about vertical fish tastings.
