The Original Marshall Plan

When Saddleback Mountain announced plans for expansion, we coordinated a media event on behalf of the state to announce the details.

The Marshall Plan was a recovery program lead by the United States to rebuild Western Europe after World War II and stop the spread of communism. The plan, developed with input from all participating European states, was put into action in 1947 and included more than $13 billion in aid from the U.S. government.

By the time the Marshall Plan wrapped up in 1951, industrial production in Western Europe had risen 40 percent above the level it had achieved prior to the war. Trade and exports had also increased significantly. European citizens had access to quality employment again, and their standard of living was on the rise. Communism was also beginning to lose its grip and continued to lose power culminating with the fall of the "Iron Curtain" nearly 40 years later.

Secretary of State George C. Marshall, who inspired the Marshall Plan, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953. Winston Churchill called Marshall's decision to rebuild Western Europe "the highest level of statesmanship."

As part of the Marshall Plan, NMC typically recommends using a strategic media relations program to get the word out in a cost effective and authentic way.
