What we do

Founded in 1991, Nancy Marshall Communications (NMC) specializes in creating and implementing strategic media relations campaigns for tourism, outdoor recreation, service businesses and economic development organizations on the local, regional, national and international level. These campaigns consist of such tactical measures as creating an on-going program of news releases, press conferences, event publicity, newsletters, message mapping, brochures and crisis communications consulting. Finally, we create and maintain relationships with the media and serve as a reliable source of information and access, whether it's offering a familiarization trip to a travel journalist or offering a credible opinion on an issue for a breaking story. The NMC team is experienced, hard working, and oriented to meeting and exceeding the needs of their clientele.

Who we are

Nancy Marshall has worked in public relations since 1983, having served a wide array of companies ranging from public television to ski resorts to state tourism and economic development agencies. Her vast network of contacts in the national media, particularly in the area of outdoor recreation, travel and tourism, differentiates Nancy from many other PR practitioners. Nancy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colby College and a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Thomas College. She has taught workshops and presented lectures and seminars to professional groups about public relations and publicity in Maine and nationally.

Along with the agency's Vice President and General Manager, Charlene Williams, Nancy has assembled a team of professionals including copywriters, photographers, database managers, administrative support and even people who read the newspapers every day to search for results of our releases.

Over the past 15 years, the agency has coordinated media tours with the national news media for the former Governor of Maine, Angus S. King, Jr. and his wife, Mary Herman, which resulted in thousands of dollars' of advertising impact for the state of Maine. The agency also coordinates press tours around the state as well as individual itineraries, both for the economic development and tourism press. Nancy and her team also coordinate news conferences, frequently in conjunction with the Governor's office. Governor Baldacci's Pine Tree Zone Economic Development Campaign has enjoyed a high profile in the media as a result of our efforts.

Nancy Marshall Communications employs a team of ten professionals in our Augusta office. Nancy and her husband Jay also own and operate Carrabassett Marketing and Printing, located in North Anson. Maine Media Clipping Service is another division of Marshall Communications, Inc. Our professional clipping staff scans Maine daily and weekly newspapers and magazines for articles pertinent to our clients.

The integrated services of the public relations agency, printing business and clipping service have resulted in fulfilling the needs of large clients such as the State of Maine Office of Tourism since 1993, and State of Maine Office of Business Development since 1996. NMC has created strategic partnerships with other agencies and firms to meet the needs of our clients.

Awards

The company was the recipient of the Margaret Chase Smith Quality Association Award, an honor that was only bestowed on seven companies in the entire state in the year 2000. This award recognizes companies with total commitment to quality in all aspects of their organization. For two consecutive years, the agency has received the "Best of Show" award from the Maine Public Relations Council in their Golden Arrow Awards competition.
